First order of business...MARY POPPINS! (Day 39)

Well, last night was simply awesome. The roommates and I took our mothers out for Mother’s Day. As I’ve been mentioned for quite awhile, we went to see Mary Poppins at The Fox.

It was amazing! Some of the scenes were right out of the movie and in my opinion, some of the songs were done better in the play than the movie! My personal favorite was “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.” To be honest, that part in the movie is my least favorite, but it was done so well in the play. The choreography of the songs was really good and the actors did a wonderful job. They made up a little dance to spell the word and it was so cool to see that many people on stage, all in sync, doing their moves for each letter.

The second best scene was “A Step in Time.” I LOVE that part in the movie and it was definitely done justice in the play! They had some awesome tap-dancing moments and Bert even walked on the frame of the stage (i was extremely nervous for him when he was walking upside down on the top part). The only thing that I can pick out that I would change was the volume of their voices. Some of them were speaking so loud that I couldn’t understand what they were saying! Now, there were also some creepy parts in the play; in a couple of scenes, the statues and toys came to life. The statues jumped off their bases and were dancing around, which was a nice touch because they incorporated some ballet, but their costumes were what I think was creepy. They were in silver body suits…weird. Overall, it was the best play I’ve seen and I really wish we could go back and see it again before it ends on Sunday!

Before going to the play (we had at least 2 hours to kill), Mom and I went to Mary Mac’s Tea Room. It was delicious! Mary Mac’s is a little southern restaurant that really had a homey feel. Since it was the first time either of us had been there, they gave us complimentary Pot-Likkers. You’re supposed to take the broth they cook the turnip greens in and break up cornbread in it. Although I’m not a big fan of cornbread, this was really good. Before they bring the main dish, you get a basket of yeast rolls, cornbread muffins, and cinnamon rolls. The cinnamon rolls were awesome, they weren’t the glazed kind so they weren’t too sweet, but they were really good. For the entrée, Mom had country fried steak, tomato pie, and squash soufflé. I picked meatloaf, okra and tomatoes, and potato cakes. It was all so tasty. For desert (of course we couldn’t say no to some pie!), we split (I ate) peanut butter pie. It was so rich and full of flavor! I wish I knew their recipe…

Day 40:

For today, I decided to post a collage of the things that I like about going home:

TASTY DINNER

FIRST DAY OF SPRING IN 20 DAYS!! YAY!
Spring = best season (hands down)

So for dinner tonight, I decided to make chicken pot pie. YUM. I love this stuff. It's not just the kind that you pop into the oven from the box, it's the kind you actually mix with your hands (fun).

This is also my first recipe that I'm posting on here!

Here's what you need:

> 2 deep dish pie shells
> 1 can of Veg-All (I use the original, salted kind)
> 1 can of green beans (kitchen cut work best)
> 1 can of corn
> 2 cans of shredded chicken
> 1 can of cream of potato soup
> an egg, beaten

You can probably make this in a ton of different ways, but I'll just write my method.

First, I mix the cream of potato soup with milk (probably about 1/4 cup, but I don't measure it).

Then, mix in salt, pepper, thyme, and poultry seasoning (we don't have poultry seasoning at the apartments so I use basil and oregano which works fine).

Drain the chicken. Squeeze it to get all of the liquid out of it and break it apart when you put it into the mixture with the cream of potato soup.

Drain all of the vegetables. Mix them into the mixture (I like to mix it with my hands, this way you don't smash any of the vegetables).

Dump the mixture into one of the pie shells. VERY CAREFULLY take the other pie shell out of the pan (an easy way is to get the sides off first, then flip it on top of the filled crust, and the bottom should come off pretty easily).

Now, brush the beaten egg on the shell (it will make it shiny and brown while it's cooking).

Last, but not least, pop it in the oven at 350° for about 40 minutes. You'll know when it's done because it will look at pretty and brown :)

HAPPY MONDAY! :)

I am in LOVE with Lady Antebellum's new cd Need You Now. Their first cd was really good too, but this one has songs that give me goosebumps. My favorites are, Hello World, Need You Now, When You Got a Good Thing, If I Knew Then, and American Honey. Yes, that is almost the whole cd, but trust me, it is that good. For some reason, I am drawn to slow ballads, which some of those are, but every once in a while, there is a song that is upbeat that I really like. American Honey is not too upbeat, but compared to Hello World, it has a little more peppy. Yesterday on my way home, I listened to this cd and played Hello World over and over. It is an awesome song and if you really listen to the words, the song gets even better. The end though is my favorite part; I love the instrumental parts. I seriously got goosebumps every time I heard the part right around 5 minutes.

Everyone should listen to this song even if you don't like country music (ahemmmm...Sara).

So I love Channing Tatum, even though he used to be a male stripper...who knew?


Also, I love the fact that there is a possible double feature in the future: A Single Man and An Education. eeeeekkk! DOUBLE FEATURES ARE AWESOME!

I'm currently loving Joshua Radin's CD Simple Times. It is really good! I had never heard of him until I stumbled across him on iTunes. He's kind of like a calmer Jack Johnson. His voice is so soothing! Another CD that I downloaded was Patty Griffin's Children Running Through. I heard Kelly Clarkson's cover of her song "Up To The Mountain" and fell in love with it! I randomly decided to get the whole CD the other day and it is very good. There are some songs though that I skip, but I like the cross between country and Nora Jones vibe she has going.

One thing that I DID NOT love was my dream the other night. I was at my old middle school walking through the parking lot when all of the sudden I couldn't see anything. It was pitch black. Someone from the dorm last year was also in the parking lot and they were trying to talk to me. I couldn't answer them though so I sat against a curb and willed myself to wake up. It was a scary dream; I hate being in the dark with nothing up against my back because I'm afraid that something else is with me. I know...weird.
