TRIPLE MOVIE FEATURE...WHAT?!?!

Day 45:

Catie came over yesterday and we had a triple movie marathon for her birthday! For her presents, Sara, Kayla, and I got her TOMS and the third season of Will&Grace (she can expect that i will steal that from her very soon). We also went to see Date Night, Remember Me, and we rented It's Complicated.

Date Night
: very funny, i would definitely see it again! steve carell and tina fey are great together
Remember Me: this is my second time seeing it and it was still awesome, very good movie
It's Complicated: geared more toward the older audience, but still very funny. by the way, john krasinski, i love you

Day 46:

After work tonight, I'm heading to Kayla's house and we're leaving for the beach tomorrow morning! I can't wait! In order to prepare for tomorrow's journey and the following week, I have to pack. For some reason, I always seem to pack too much, but oh well! At least I'm going to Florida!!

THRILLING INFORMATION

Time to catch up :)
(im sure yall are thrilled!)

Days 41 and 42:
(im going to use the same picture for these days because i was at the same place both days)

My grandmother had a procedure done on an artery in her leg early Thursday morning. The doctors wanted to keep her over night to make sure everything was going to be okay, so Mom and I spent the night. We were able to leave early on Friday morning though!

Day 43:

I worked all day and had a nice Macy's Orientation to attend (almost 3 hours long!). Yes, I have used this picture before, but let me tell you, this whole 365 deal is a lot harder than it seems! I always forget to take a picture so I end up finding one on the computer. I need something to remind me every day...

Day 44:

I went home today! We went to church and then shopping and I also got a pedicure (love those!). I've decided that this summer is the summer of new color. For the past few pedicures, I've gotten colors that I normally don't get: purple, orange, gray. Hmmm...what color to get next time? Time to get back to the picture...this is the pond that we have in the front yard. I tried to take a picture of the frog that just sat on one of the pots in the pond, but you can't really see him that well.

AND...
Possibly my favorite picture of me and Mom:

GREY'S ANATOMY

I promise I will catch up one the 365 Pictures thing, but did anyone see the preview for Grey's Anatomy season finale?! Holy moly! It looks awesome. Grey's always has the best finales which is why it is in my top 2 favorite shows :) So, before I catch up on everything else, my #1 priority is to catch up on Grey's! Only 8 episodes to go!!

THIS LOOKS SO AWESOME! I CAN'T WAIT!

SUPERCALIFRAGLISTICEXPLIALIDOCIOUS

{the ceiling was made to look like the sky and the colors were amazing}

First order of business...MARY POPPINS! (Day 39)

Well, last night was simply awesome. The roommates and I took our mothers out for Mother’s Day. As I’ve been mentioned for quite awhile, we went to see Mary Poppins at The Fox.

{Sara, her mother, and her sister}

It was amazing! Some of the scenes were right out of the movie and in my opinion, some of the songs were done better in the play than the movie! My personal favorite was “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.” To be honest, that part in the movie is my least favorite, but it was done so well in the play. The choreography of the songs was really good and the actors did a wonderful job. They made up a little dance to spell the word and it was so cool to see that many people on stage, all in sync, doing their moves for each letter.

{the cast at the end...they sang "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" again}

The second best scene was “A Step in Time.” I LOVE that part in the movie and it was definitely done justice in the play! They had some awesome tap-dancing moments and Bert even walked on the frame of the stage (i was extremely nervous for him when he was walking upside down on the top part). The only thing that I can pick out that I would change was the volume of their voices. Some of them were speaking so loud that I couldn’t understand what they were saying! Now, there were also some creepy parts in the play; in a couple of scenes, the statues and toys came to life. The statues jumped off their bases and were dancing around, which was a nice touch because they incorporated some ballet, but their costumes were what I think was creepy. They were in silver body suits…weird. Overall, it was the best play I’ve seen and I really wish we could go back and see it again before it ends on Sunday!

------------------------

Before going to the play (we had at least 2 hours to kill), Mom and I went to Mary Mac’s Tea Room. It was delicious! Mary Mac’s is a little southern restaurant that really had a homey feel. Since it was the first time either of us had been there, they gave us complimentary Pot-Likkers. You’re supposed to take the broth they cook the turnip greens in and break up cornbread in it. Although I’m not a big fan of cornbread, this was really good. Before they bring the main dish, you get a basket of yeast rolls, cornbread muffins, and cinnamon rolls. The cinnamon rolls were awesome, they weren’t the glazed kind so they weren’t too sweet, but they were really good. For the entrée, Mom had country fried steak, tomato pie, and squash soufflé. I picked meatloaf, okra and tomatoes, and potato cakes. It was all so tasty. For desert (of course we couldn’t say no to some pie!), we split (I ate) peanut butter pie. It was so rich and full of flavor! I wish I knew their recipe…

{all of the rooms had special names...this is ours!}

Day 40:

For today, I decided to post a collage of the things that I like about going home:

{Levi, my comfy bed, new projects/additions, one thing i don't like: waking up to be ready to leave by 5:30}

CATCHING UP

I haven't really been on top of blogging lately (hopefully that will change in the weeks to come) so I've been creating these semi-long posts that include things that I want to speak about. Here's what I'm asking you: are these long posts annoying? I don't want to be writing a post that someone opens up and then sees that is super long and just decides not to read it...so if you'll let me know what you think about them, I would appreciate it!! :)

------------------------

First off, I'm so excited for tomorrow!! I can't believe that we're finally going to see Mary Poppins at the Fox. I think we might watch MP tonight when I get home from work, just to be prepared for tomorrow. AHHHHH I'M SO EXCITED!!

------------------------

Last night, I decided to finally watch The Bridges of Madison County. This movie is critically acclaimed, and to be honest, I don't see why. In my opinion, the story line was ok, but it was a little too corny for my taste. I'm not saying it was a bad movie, because it wasn't by an means, I just went in expected an awesome movie. To be honest, the first 5 to 10 minutes are what made the movie to me; they were very slow and I had no idea what was going on. I think from now on, I'll read a book and watch a movie with no expectations. It seems that I go in with certain ones and then they end up completely wrong (The Lovely Bones). One thing I'll give the movie is at the end, I found myself tearing up for Meryl Streep's character. The end scene in the rain...oh man, that kind of redeemed the movie from the beginning. All in all, the story was ok, the characters were what I liked most, and I think I would watch this movie again!

------------------------

Earlier on in the year, I made a list of books that I'm going to read. Right now, I'm working on The Last Song, next I'm going to read The Princess Diaries (they seem like the perfect summer books). I think from then on, I'm going to try and read a book that might be a harder read alternated with a funny, quick read. Here is my list that I'll hopefully get through:

The Last Song
The Princess Diaries (1-3)
Little Women
The Devil Wears Prada
Emma
Little Altars Everywhere
Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood
Son of a Witch
The Condition
The Nanny Diaries
AND I would really like to re-read the Twilight series...I honestly don't know why

When I'm done reading a book, I'll make a post about it, so be prepared for the many to come!

------------------------

Now onto A Picture a Day:

Day 35:

{insert graduation picture}

My brother graduated on Saturday!! Congratulations to Cade! I'm hoping that when I go home tomorrow, I'll be able to get the pictures off my mom's camera and upload some.

Day 36:

{pictures}

Instead of uploading more pictures of my mother (since this day was Mother's Day), I'll just post a link to my last post (although you could just scroll down :) )

Day 37:

I met Sara after work at Ramsey and we did a little workin' out. No, we didn't swim, but I thought the picture of the pool was nice!

Day 38:

I finished the fifth season of The Office this morning! I flew through the last couple of seasons, and I think I might go through them one more time before I go back to Friends. Oh how I love my morning marathons!

THE LOVELY BONES

So, when I mentioned The Lovely Bones on a post a few weeks ago, some of you wanted to know how I felt about it. I decided to wait until I finished it to give a review about it, and let me tell you, if you were a fan of this book stop reading now.

"Sebold's first novel after her memoir, Lucky is a small but far from minor miracle. Sebold has taken a grim, media-exploited subject and fashioned from it a story that is both tragic and full of light and grace. The novel begins swiftly. In the second sentence, Sebold's narrator, Susie Salmon, announces, "I was fourteen when I was murdered on December 6, 1973." Susie is taking a shortcut through a cornfield when a neighbor lures her to his hideaway. The description of the crime is chilling, but never vulgar, and Sebold maintains this delicate balance between homely and horrid as she depicts the progress of grief for Susie's family and friends. She captures the odd alliances forged and the relationships ruined: the shattered father who buries his sadness trying to gather evidence, the mother who escapes "her ruined heart, in merciful adultery." At the same time, Sebold brings to life an entire suburban community, from the mortician's son to the handsome biker dropout who quietly helps investigate Susie's murder. Much as this novel is about "the lovely bones" growing around Susie's absence, it is also full of suspense and written in lithe, resilient prose that by itself delights. Sebold's most dazzling stroke, among many bold ones, is to narrate the story from Susie's heaven (a place where wishing is having), providing the warmth of a first-person narration and the freedom of an omniscient one. It might be this that gives Sebold's novel its special flavor, for in Susie's every observation and memory of the smell of skunk or the touch of spider webs is the reminder that life is sweet and funny and surprising."
-Review from Amazon.com

I couldn't wait to finish this book! I was out at the pool yesterday and I finally completed it! It took me quite a while to read it and it wasn't really worth it to me. I didn't like the way it was written, I didn't like certain parts, and overall I didn't like the characters. After watching the movie trailer (extremely misleading), I thought the book was going to be about Susie's murder and her family trying to catch the murderer. That part takes up a total of 2 pages in the book. I don't really feel that there was a main point or plot to the story which was a big disappointment. Another thing that turned me off from the book was the author's style. She was descriptive (something that I normally enjoy), but her descriptions were all over the place. One moment she would be describing something from the past, then she would move to Susie's thoughts, then back to the family...it was very hard to keep up with it all. I think this book had potential to be a very quick and interesting read, but I must not have been in the right mind set. Maybe I'll try and read it again (since I now know what to expect) and see if I like it better...

Next book on the list to read: The Last Song. I'm not going to lie, I'm looking forward to this book!

DAY 33 AND 34

Day 33:

Last night for dinner, we had tilapia, corn on the cob, and broccoli. DELICIOUS!

Day 34:

Also, last night and into the wee hours of this morning, I had an awesome allergy attack. I don't know if it was from the smoke from the fire or from being outside and not taking my allergy medication, but all I know is that I felt horrible (and I'm still recovering today). We got back from my brother's house just after 11 last night and as soon as we walked in, I felt like there was something under my eyelid. So I asked Kayla to look to see if she could see anything (I couldn't) and the only thing weird with my eye was that it was red in one area. Instead of awkwardly trying to place eye drops on that one area myself, I asked Kayla (what a wonderful roommate) to put them on there. It took forever! For some reason, I could keep my eye open for her to do that. Eventually the drops were in and my eye was feeling better; this was when the sneezing started. I couldn't stop sneezing and my nose was running...boo. So from 12 to 2, I sat in bed with tissues surrounding me and watched The Real Housewives of New York City. I was so itchy that I couldn't go to sleep, but eventually I was able to semi-breath through my nose and doze off. All in all, I was not a fan of the events that occurred last night. (the picture is of what i found on my night stand this morning. i dont know how i went through that many tissues...and sorry the picture is kind of gross...i dont think anyone really wants to look at used tissues :) )

DAY 32

Day 32:

I bought this purse yesterday at Target, and I'm still not sure if I'm going to keep it. I like it, but I'm so used to huge bags!

RANT

it sounds stupid for me to say that i have an intense fear of talking on the phone to people that i dont know, but its true. aside from my fear of bridges and heights, i seriously dread talking to random people on the phone. this fear also effects how i feel about talking on the phone to family though. i dont know what it is about phone conversations, but i cant stand them. its hard to put into words how i feel about them, but when i know that i have to call someone or take a call from someone, it scares me to death. i think its because i hate awkwardness and you all know what im talking about with the lull in a conversation when its just awkward. neither of you know what to say so you say something dumb about the weather or you joke around with the other person. this fear also effects how i am at work because answering the phone at a place that i know barely anything about is horrible. thats why i pretend that i dont hear the phone or i ask the other person to answer. i simply dont want to be put in the situation where i cant help someone and honestly, i dont even really know how to work the phones. i dont think that people really understand how phone conversations truly effect me. im always told that i need to learn how to do these things and that im acting like a child because i dont want to make a phone call. its not that i dont want to talk to the person, its not that i dont know what to say to them, its simply the fact that when i pick up the phone to call someone or when i know that someone is calling me, i freak out. thats why i rarely answer my phone unless im really close to you and thats why i never call anyone. i just wish that people would understand that im not being irrational for not wanting to call someone. the only thing that im trying to avoid is the fear and dread that comes along with phone calls.

anyways sorry for the rant, but i had to try and make sense of what i was thinking. and i do know how dumb this sounds and i know that i shouldnt make a big deal out of it, but i really do try to not let it bother me, but today was one of the days that it is all that i can think about.

5.04.2010

DAYS, MEMES, AWARDS, ETC.

Day 28:

THE FIRST DAY OF MAY! So, Happy late May!!
As I do with the beginning of every month, I re-did my calendar. This month was pretty exciting for me to fill up because I no longer have to write "CHFD/HACE/FDNS/MIST/ARHI Exam #..." I used to dread writing that. The only things going on this month with school are final exams. I'm already half way done with those now though, so two more to go! I can't wait to be able to have my schedule revolve around something interesting, not school. PLUS, we're going to Panama in a couple of weeks. SO MUCH FUN!

Day 29:

One of my roommates, Kayla, works as an intern for Kimberly Clark. About a week ago, she got a large shipment in of water bottle that she was going to pass out for Earth day. I kept bothering her and telling her that I wanted a blue one and on Sunday she so graciously gave me one :)

Day 30:

On Monday, I had a final at 8 AM. I stepped outside at 7 to see how the weather was and if I needed a jacket; the weather was hot and muggy, but no rain. I later walked out the door to catch the 7:15 bus to take me to campus and it was pouring. Seeing as I didn't have my umbrella I had to run back inside and gather that. If I would have known that campus was basically flooding, I would have also taken the time to change my shoes, but I didn't...big mistake. My Keds got soaked and muddy and just gross! Luckily though, I didn't have socks on, wet socks are the worst!

Day 31:

This has been happening for quite a while, but I don't understand my laptop's battery! I don't want to charge it constantly, but I basically have to. I let it charge until it's full then I unplug it and within an hour, it's back down saying that only 10% is remaining. I've tried to look up how to extend the battery life, but nothing's really helping. I'm starting to get very frustrated with it.
